Last season at Goods, we introduced the 991 model from New Balance. It was a launch, which was met with great succes by you - our customers. So much so, in-fact, we even re-ordered all of the remaining stock from the Scandinavian warehouse and still managed to sell all of our pairs by the end of the season. We find the 991 model to be the perfect running shape because it goes well with a dressy pair of Incotex trousers, a straight fitted more casual Italian made chino from our own in-house brand, or even with a fresh off the shelf and crisp APC jean - or the beaten down model.
So, for our Autumn selection, it made good sense to continue down that same path and give you the 991 in several colorways. The first is this special edition celebration model in a navy and blue colorway.
The New Balance 99X series was introduced in the 1980s and has been a staple for the brand ever since. They were notably favoured by Steve Jobs, who, according to New Balance owner Jim Davies, was the one who originally sparked the idea of the series in a letter to the company asking for something ”more sporty and hip” than the brand's then selection. Furthermore, the shoes are one of the few models that is still being produced at the brand's UK factory in Flimby, Northern England - where craftsmanship and quality fabrics and materials are the main focus. Said factory actually celebrates 35 years in business this year, making New Balance the only major sportswear brand still producing footwear in Europe.
So if you haven’t noticed already; we really like the 991 model. It has a lighter and more elegant design than many others in the same bracket.
Get on down and try them on for yourself - and see if you agree with us on our love for this durable, timeless, great looking and excellently comfortable icon of the sneaker world.
